Giving Back

Bacon Donation to Wendells

The gents over at Bacon Skateboards donated 30 complete decks to Windells for this year’s batch of skate campers. Campers will have free access to these boards during their stay at the camp. How cool is that?

Each board was lovingly assembled by the folks at Bacon including some sweet grip tape work by Tim Eberly. Here’s the list of sponsors and their contributions:

Check out a small photo essay of board delivery day after the turn.

The Natural

Monday Cover Vol. 2 Issue 27 - Tim Eberly

This week’s Monday Cover skater, Tim Eberly, skates the ultimate sustainable terrain, a tree. If you’ve skated with Tim, you know what we mean by “The Natural.” He skates everything and just kills it, including this flapped-out tree fakie at Windells. Check out some more pics of Tim skating Jamie Weller creations at Windells after the turn.

Congratulations Tim!

Calling All Concretins

Skidzilla in Oregon

Dave (a.k.a. Skidzilla) and Chad came out to Oregon for few days to skate some Northwest ‘crete. We managed to hit Tobin’s, Burnside, Pier Park, Glenhaven, Tigard, Donald and Newberg in our two half-days of skating. In addition to Burt Reynolds posing, Dave is an active Concretin back in his home state of Kentucky. Check out all the Skidzilla action after the turn.

Ever Evolving

Gabriel Park

Concrete is flowing at Gabriel Park. About 50% of the snake is poured and it looks like it’s going to be a blast. It’s getting hot out there, so if you think about it, liquid donations are always appreciated by the work crew. Keep skatepark builders hydrated. Check out more of the progress pics after the turn.

Skate Oasis

High Wall Half-Pipe @ Burnside

One of the earliest concrete skateparks built under/near a bridge/overpass was the Oasis in San Diego. It was a short lived park built during the skatepark boom of the late 70’s and early 80’s. The idea of using the space under bridges/overpasses for skatepark construction was not lost on the skater’s of Portland. Case in point, Burnside Skatepark, an oasis for the soul of skateboarding. Long live Burnside.

Dave Hupp has new video featuring some serious skating at Burnside. Word has it you can buy your copy at Shrunken Head or Cal Skates. Why wouldn’t you? More pics after the turn.

Baby Onions

Baby Onions at Aumsville

Our weekend mission to Lincoln City was interrupted by rain. So we opted for dryer environs at Aumsville and a session with some of the local folks. Check out Shane, Colton and MC get their shred on after the turn. It will bring a tear to your eye.

Dr. K.’s Book Report

Dr. K. Dub Book Review

We have something a little different for you this week. Brad Krohn was kind enough to send us an excellent book review for the book Dub – Soundscapes and Shattered Songs in Jamaican Reggae, by Michael Veal, Wesleyan University Press, 2007. Check out all of Brad’s literary thoughts after the turn.

Up, Up and Away

Monday Cover Vol. 2 Issue 26 - Shawn Reinert

We’re not sure if this week’s Monday Cover skater, Shawn Reinert, ever came back to earth? When we took this pic, he was still gaining altitude. That’s one big frontside air in one killer bowl. Viva la Pier Park.

Congratulations Shawn!

Hip to Hood

Johnny Turgesen - Hip to Hood @ Battle Ground

Earlier this week, we posted about riding the back of the cradle at Battle Ground. Well, yesterday, Johnny Turgesen showed us his line on the cradle back. Sick, sick, sick. Yep, completely ill. Check out the full sequence below.
