Possibly the only full pipe on the planet with a doorway, Pier Park Skate Park inspires Andy MacDonald to frontside lip slide the doorway’s upper edge. Focus, determination and about ten tries later, Andy made the trick and the rest is history. So what do you call that trick? Well, Bucky mentioned to Andy that he might call it a “tin can.” We thought it looked more like an “under rock.” Whatever it’s called, it’s insane. It’s a little known fact that Portland, Oregon was almost named Boston. It’s true and it came down to the flip of a coin. Speaking of Boston, this week’s Monday Cover skater and Bostonian, Andy Macdonald, took time out from the rigors of Dew-dom to skate Pier Park. It’s really about who can have the most fun and turn lemons into lemonade when required. That’s exactly what Mike Rogers does on a daily basis. Mike heads up the Grind for Life organization, devoted to providing financial assistance to cancer patients and their families. Check out some video of Mike and Andy Mac’ enjoying themselves during a recent session at Tony Hawk’s vert ramp. All the action after the turn and thanks Mike for being such an inspiration. The mouse hole was getting worked during a recent session at Pier Park. Chris Miller, Andy Macdonald, Owen Nieder, Zach Miller and Rion Linderman dropped in for session with the locals. Not since the 2007 Trifecta has the mouse hole been worked so heavily. Chris rolled over the hole frontside at will and Andy took it both ways. Chris’ son, Zach, landed a few kick-flips over the hole and everyone was stoked to skate. Check out a gallery and some video of the session after the turn.
Come on over to Extracto Roasters on Saturday afternoon, October 27th from 4-6 p.m., for the closing of the Fernhill Skatepark art benefit. There are still plenty of great photos for purchase and all proceeds go to building another “sick” skatepark here in our fine city. On Thursday, Oct. 4th, from 6-8pm come check out over 60 images for sale in support of the Fernhill Skatepark at Extracto Coffee House. Don’t fret, if you can’t make the opening, the art will be up all month and available for purchase. A mere $35 per print with all proceeds going directly to making Fernhill skatepark a reality.
