Yeah, it’s Thursday but with Stiff Little Fingers touring the U.K., we thought we would switch it up a bit. It’s a YouTube Tuesday on Thursday featuring Shellshock Rock: a Documentary on Northern Ireland punk directed by John T. Davis. So if you’re feeling less than informed on the subject, click on through for a six part punk rewind.
Pith helmet secure? Good. Because it’s time, once again, to delve into some Cal Skate Relics. This week’s offerings include more pics of Cab and his griptape art, some Steadham stills and three yet-to-be-identified mystery skaters. Check out all 12 exhibits after the turn. What’s the word skate nerds?
Without a doubt, Tristen and crew earned the title “Concrete Masters.” If you’ve mixed and hand-stacked bags of concrete, you know it’s a labor of love. It looks like the coping blocks are starting to creep around the lip in addition to some bowl art. Check it out for yourself over on Tristen’s Earth Patrol network gallery. Props to the artist and their spray can work as well.
Growing up in a small mid-American town in the 70’s and trying to get your skate on was a bit of a challenge. Skateboarder magazine, possibly a set of Rampage ramp plans and your personal ingenuity were your ticket to survival. So, how many folks out there built a Rampage ramp? How many cut it in half at the bottom and inserted some flat? How many cut it down and put it inside of a garage or other building so you could skate through the Winter months? Like so many of us, this week’s Monday Cover skater, Jeff Ament, shares those skate roots. Check out more pics of Jeff shredding it up after the turn.
Congratulations Jeff!
Phase 1 of the Gresham Skate Park has started. Dreamland is on site and making progress on the street portion of the design. Check out more pictures of machinery and dirt piles over on Tom’s Earth Patrol Network page.
Thanks Tom for the update.
Hope you like leftovers, ’cause that’s what you’re getting on this week’s edition of Foto-Friday. Better than cold pizza, here are some shots from a couple of late summer sessions at Pier Park and MC’s bowl. Check out a few shots of Jeff, Shawn, Chris, Oudalay, Kyle, Troy, MC and Fiona in the gallery.
This is some serious Merde! Oh yeah, and there are quite a few Bacon chunks as well. It’s Man Cans, the latest video distraction from the folks that constitute Merde and Bacon. Check out all the “shred your face off” action after the turn. Also, for those with sensitive ears, be aware that some of the music in the video contains some not so saintly lyrics. EPM “You’ve been warned” Out!
So it seems Damon and Tyler, Cal Skate employees extraordinaire, have went all “Indiana Jones” and uncovered some great skate artifacts tucked away at the shop. The bulk of which are photos that have not seen the light of day for possibly decades. So it’s with great pleasure that we kick-off a weekly feature devoted to sharing their discoveries in what we are calling Cal Skate Relics. Check out this week’s relic after the turn. EPM “hat and whip in tow” Out!
When he’s not heading up operations for Dreamland Skateparks, this week’s Monday Cover skater, Mark Scott, is more than likely shredding it up. Case in point, Mark mid-gray slide during the Pier Park stop of the 2009 Oregon Bifecta. Check out more pics of Mark along with some recent Thrasher video coverage after the turn.
Congratulations Mark!
