If ever there’s a role for a young skateboarding Joaquin Phoenix, this week’s Monday Cover skater, Michael O’Friel just might fit the bill. Here he is styling a frontside nose grind at the West Linn stop of the 2010 Oregon Trifecta. Michael is another benefactor of great Northwest concrete and he takes full advantage. The autumnal equinox quickly approaches and with it more opportunity for indoor activities due to inclement weather and decreasing daylight periods. So with that in mind, we started to poke around the music bins for some season appropriate music and what did we find? If you guessed Arcade Fire, give yourself a point for reading the title prior to reading the post. Now grab that flannel plaid shirt, the hat with the ear flaps and settle in for some Arcade Fire after the turn.
The Northwest is chock full of skate talent and this week’s Monday Cover skater, Sky Siljeg, is at the forefront. Technology is your friend when it comes to finding skate terrain. The recently improved Google Maps satellite imagery is amazing to say the least and we used it to pick out some of the local skate spots around Portland. Combine this technology with a real estate search engine like Zillo and you have the perfect tools for finding those elusive backyard skate havens.
